GeoDome Theater Featured at White House Event Celebrating Astronomy Education
Washington, DC (PRWEB) -- The Elumenati's GeoDome Theater (http://www.geodome.info) was showcased at the White House 'Star Party,' an event hosted by President Barack Obama Wednesday night, Oct 7. Scientists from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and Dr. D'nardo Colucci of The Elumenati set up the GeoDome Theater on the White House lawn, giving interactive lessons inside the portable, inflatable dome for about 150 middle-school students. Audiences from high school, college, and community planetariums in Minnesota greeted the President and listened in on the presentations over the Internet through the GeoDome's networking capabilities.
The event, part of the International Year of Astronomy, celebrated the President's regard for astronomy. In announcing the event, the White House Press Secretary highlighted astronomy's "capacity to promote a greater awareness of our place in the universe, expand human knowledge, and inspire the next generation by showing them the beauty and mysteries of the night sky."
"We're excited and flattered that White House staff selected the GeoDome Theater to be part of this important event," said Dr. Colucci, co-founder of The Elumenati (http://www.elumenati.com). "NASA Goddard has done great work in creating a powerful, portable educational service using the GeoDome, and we're honored to help them bring it to the White House Star Party."
The GeoDome immersive learning environment is a uniquely accessible vehicle for Earth and space science education, using a portable dome, a digital projector, and interactive data visualization software to create a focused, inquiry-based learning experience. With SCISS's Uniview (http://www.scalingtheuniverse.com) software, audiences zoom through NASA's Digital Universe Atlas, using a game controller to navigate a map of the entire known universe. Information is presented in a systems-based context that makes complex concepts easy to understand and instills a sense of wonder.
The White House Star Party illustrated the educational power and convenience of the portable and rapidly deployable GeoDome system. The GeoDome allows science communicators to reach underserved populations with compelling presentations of current scientific data, engaging and inspiring those who need it most. NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center regularly features its GeoDome in outreach events, and a network of GeoDome users collaborate on presentations across the globe.

Astronomy as Hobby – Studying the Skies
Long before people developed telescopes, the night sky has had an appeal to humanity’s hearts that can’t be compared to anything else in existence. Many superstitions have sprouted up from observing the sky, most notably things like constellations, reading the stars to tell the future, and good fortune bestowed by ‘falling’ stars. Amateur astronomy is a hobby that has been around for quite while.
